The Taranto's Archaeological Museum was rearranged and a brand new "Room of Gold" opened. It consists of a collection of famous jewels shown in travelling exhibitions all over the world.
Most of the jewels in the collection date from the 4th-1th centuries BC.They include gold diadems in the shape of lauel or oak leaves, necklaces , rings with fixed or movable settings, bracelets, pendents and earrings in the most wild and wonderful shapes,often decorated in gold filigree with sean or dove figures and negroes' and lions' heads. Most of the items date from the 4th century BC or from the Hellenistic age
Besides thee gold and silver items, the museum also boasts a vast collection of ceramics mostly from excavations carried out in the city-often in preparation for building work and street work. There are also many silver plates and objects for make up, like silver spoons, needles and mirrors. Very interesting are also the crowns with gold leafts, the golden lamine decorated in relief with mithologic scenes, some object of metal art the sceptre and the glasses. There are also some earth were sculptures,clothes, gold fibula, a scarab and a bronze nut-crackers .
